*so I bought this card game recently:

Barbarossa ばるば☆ろっさ, by Arclight Games. In the game, you and up to 5 other players take the role of German commanders of sorts, working together to bring down Moscow in a reenactment of Operation Barbarossa, but for some reason your men are all  animu girls/women wearing little clothing for uniform:

The game is like a Dominion clone, but it has a combat phase where you can deploy your troops and attack/take over Russian cities to earn victory points. I’ve never played Dominion myself so I can’t really compare, but after reading the rulebook and trying to play it by myself, I find the game pretty interesting. You basically start with a 8 card deck, and slowly add more and more cards to your deck by spending supply points and “recruiting” units from “the battlefield”:

The game ends when Moscow has finally been taken down, and the player with the most victory point is declared the winner.

I’m pretty surprised to see a board/card game old timer commenting on how good the game is. Though I must agree that the art direction is pretty bad (some of the art are borderline porn). I guess the company producing this must’ve thought it won’t sell well should they not choose this path.

The game is pretty new (was released in late June 2010), and judging by how well Arclight Games’ other Dominion clone did (Tanto Cuore, another Dominion clone where the player hires maids. The game was well received enough to earn itself an expansion set April this year, with another expansion set coming out this August. The nice people at boardgamegeek.com even translated the rules and made nice, printable English translation paste-ups for the cards, if you wish to play the game but can’t read Japanese), I’d love to see how well this game sells.
