fileserve still working tho. sucks about mega and filesonic tho.
Grimmjow Says:
I never liked filesonic anyway so it doesn’t bother me, rapidshare is in no danger of being shut down but I am worried about mediafire.
anon Says:
Anyone who says it doesn’t bother them, it should bother you whether you used it or not. Not only because of the gross abuse of power by the law, but also because whether they’re being actively hunted or running scared, they’re all in danger of going down.

Apparently a lot of file-hosting services are closing down or trying to cut the USA out of their service area.
The comments below are changing on a daily basis!
In light of Megaupload’s closing, several file-sharing sites are banning USA IP addresses. Here’s a list of some:
MegaUpload
Closed.
FileServe
Deleting multiple files. Closed affiliate program.
FileJungle
(Owned by FileServe) Deleting multiple files. Testing out blocking some USA IP addresses.
UploadStation
(Owned by FileServe) Deleting multiple files. Testing out blocking some USA IP addresses.
FileSonic (See update.)
(Owned by Fileserve)
VideoBB
Closed affiliate program.
Uploaded (See the update about FileSonic)
Banned USA IP addresses.
FilePost
Started suspending accounts with infringing material (doing what Hotfile did)
VideoZer
Closed affiliate program.
4shared
Deleting multiple files.

the file hosts sucks anyway. Go magnet link or torrent all the way
zippospam Says:
what they will do is retrieve any and all servers residing in the USA so the USA has no excuse to persecute them, megaupload had several servers on the USA soil that was their mistake.
Temyo Says:
Guys… chill out. The internet died when napster closed ?, nope just thousands of similar sites pop up out of the states, the same thing is about to happen and rapidshare is an example of it when they say they are not afraid of the FBI or anyone not only because they comply with the current laws and dmca but bcs the servers are not in the United States territory.
So megaupload will come back eventually, the filehosting sites will move away their servers jobs and investment to another countries and that’s it.. business as usual.
What we must watch is things like SOPA or PIPA, that’s what we must worry about.
Garuda Says:
Might want to check the mirrors that LittleWhiteButterflies uses, at least a few of them are still good. As to whether this is a temporary thing like Napsters…impossible to say. Depends on how much effort the U.S and other nations put on it.
Phy Says:
God damnit. I’ll have to find a new source again.
JCD Says:
That’s perfectly shows that PIPA and SOPA are just a legal cover for already planned actions that will be carried out anyway.
Mania_Lyssa Says:
So we’re pretty much going back to the old days of file hosting sites basically going underground with how people and sites use them for their contents?

When all these filehosting sites move their business away from the U.S., I look forward to seeing the dumbfounded looks of politicians going “wait, wherefor’d all that thur money goes? D:”

FileServe has taken itself out of the loop as a filehost for scanlations.
If you try to use it on any of DesuDesu’s latest releases, you get this:
* File not available
* This file was either in breach of a copyright holder or deleted by the uploader.
Over at SaHa’s, the latest release on FileServe comes back with this:
* FileServe can only be used to download and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.
* If this file belongs to you, please login to download it directly from your file manager.
The one at SaHa’s could be a block on USA IPs.

This is the current status of the more popular file sharing websites:
MegaUpload – Closed.
FileServe – Closing does not sell premium.
FileJungle – Deleting files. Locked in the U.S..
UploadStation – Locked in the U.S..
FileSonic – the news is arbitrary (under FBI investigation).
… VideoBB – Closed! would disappear soon.
Uploaded – Banned U.S. and the FBI went after the owners who are gone.
FilePost – Deleting all material (so will leave executables, pdfs, txts)
Videoz – closed and locked in the countries affiliated with the USA.
4shared – Deleting files with copyright and waits in line at the FBI.
MediaFire – Called to testify in the next 90 days and it will open doors for FBI
Org torrent – could vanish with everything within 30 days “he is under criminal investigation”
Network Share mIRC – awaiting the decision of the case to continue or terminate Torrente everything.
Koshiki – operating 100% Japan will not join the SOUP / PIPA
Shienko Box – 100% working china / korea will not join the SOUP / PIPA
ShareX BR – group UOL / BOL / iG say they will join the SOUP / PIPA

“First Megaupload and just 30 minutes ago, Filesonic too. Who’s next, Mediafire?”
According to Wikipedia, Mediafire is based in Texas,USA, so that is probably why they are already on the FBI “call to testify” list.
Maybe it is time to start the humongous torrent file of “Desudesu’s releases” again.
I am still seeding the one from a few years ago, and it seems to be well used, sometimes trying to upload over the 50KByte/s limit I have set on it.
I’m seeding a LOT of files, with only a 10Mbit/s upload limit.
Nyaatorrents & Openbittorrent are still supplying the trackers.
That is the big worry, if the tracker sites shut down, the torrent can run to completion, but can’t restart, and no old or new torrents can be started.
BakaBT shut off their tracker for the protest the other day, but as long as a download and seed wasn’t interrupted, it would run to completion.
Once either end lost their end, there was no tracker to re-establish the torrent.

Apparently not having a search engine devoted to searching through your entire database of uploaded files is evidence of guilt, so expect basically ALL file upload sites to go down eventually.

rapidshare is out of the US jurisdiction, every single one of their services is run from switzerland which I don’t think will extradite to the US so they are safe

At least until the rest of the filesharing servers catch up – and then the U.S. will be on the internet blacklist.

Grimmjow Says:
Switzerland has extradition treaty with the US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_extradition_treaties (Scroll down some)
Even with the treaty, does Switzerland still not extradite to the US?
Grimmjow Says:
Raiden18 Says:
Even if they have the treaty I think they would have to have committed a crime in the US for them to be eligible for extradition. Since none of their services are run out of the US the govt should only be able to block their service at the most, but only if SOPA/PIPA is passed.
Raiden18 Says:
Grimmjow Says:
Ah you’re right, I was getting confused. The supposed justification for raiding MegaUpload was that they rented servers in the US, and therefore had a US presence. So as long as RapidShare or others don’t have servers in the US and therefore don’t break US law, they should be alright. I guess…
Dretch Says:
Indeed. Which is why so many fileshare services are not pulling their business outta the U.S. – the blacklisting is just to give a middle finger whilst walking out the door.
Dretch Says:
*are NOW pulling their business
Gah, typo’s..
Anona Says:
I have an account at Hotfile (non-premium).
Before this problem, they didn’t seem to be enforcing the 90 day rule on deleting inactive files (mine were under 100MB).
It seems the first files they purged were the inactive ones.
That makes for less files to check for copyrights.
.
Not a paranoid faggot Says:
Megaupload was taken down because it’s owners were actively uploading illegal content. In addition, not only did they refuse to remove copyrighted content when it was reported to them, they also actually paid the users that uploaded the files.
Filesonic voluntarily removed their services. Most likely because they were trying to pull the same bullshit megaupload was doing. In other words, they got scared.
tl;dr stop overreacting
Naeko Says:
The European Union signed the ACTA Treaty on Jan 26 (today) as the next major step in adopting that Treaty. It basically implements SOPA, PIPA, and other items in the eurozone. It also creates a new department that does nothing but search and prosecute intellectual property violations. ACTA changes the meaning of filesharing to be counterfeiting and makes it a criminal violation with significant fines and a criminal record for uploaders, sites that host files, sites that provide information about counterfeit files, downloaders of counterfeits, possessors of counterfeits, and distributors of counterfeits. Thus, if you downloaded a single doujin, you could be charged with multiple felony counts (depends on country) and if you are in the USA, the associated infrastructure you used to commit the crimes may be seized (all computer gear in your domicile, all digital magnetic media, all your monitors and televisions if it was a video because you viewed the video).
ACTA was intended by the Bush administration to be completed before Bush left office, but the EU and others objected to some of the punitive methods and the USA kept being stubborn about keeping things such as 3-Strikes until the very end where it gave up (temporarily). The next incarnation of ACTA may re-incorporate 3-Strikes.
3-Strikes is three intellectual property violations and you are banned from using the internet permanently. Similar to many other USA felony laws where life imprisonment without parole is mandatory. In my area, vandalizing a USA official mailbox is a felony. Do that 3 times, and you have 3 felonies…. The USA is full of special interest groups that lobby and get non-linear severe penalties.
Anona Says:
It looks like Nyaatorrents might be getting scared.
They seem to be pulling their trackers on a bunch of things:
SaHa’s torrent
Desudesu’s torrent (v.4 & v.3)
At least a couple of anime titles.
